Two blinds, one window

How Double Roller Blinds Work

Double roller blinds place two separate fabric blinds on one window. They are also known as dual roller blinds, day and night blinds, night and day blinds or combination blinds.

Use the sunscreen or light-filtering blind during the day, then lower the blockout blind when you want stronger privacy and a darker room at night.

Made To Measure

Daytime control

Use a sunscreen or light-filtering fabric to reduce glare while keeping useful natural light in the room.

Night privacy

Lower the blockout blind in the evening when the daytime fabric no longer gives enough privacy.

Two fabrics

Two roller blinds give you different levels of light control without adding curtains to the same window.

Where double blinds work best

Flexible Light Control

Double roller blinds suit living rooms, home offices, bedrooms and street-facing windows where your needs change between daytime and evening.

During the day, a sunscreen blind can cut glare and help retain the outside view. A light-filtering blind softens the light with less view-through. At night, the blockout blind gives stronger privacy and helps darken the room.

Because the system has two rollers, the window needs enough recess depth or suitable wall space above the frame. We check the available space, handles and mounting position before recommending the setup.

Are double roller blinds right for your windows?

We will check the available fitting space and talk through how you use the room. If two rollers are not the best fit, we will show you a simpler alternative.

Common questions

Double Roller FAQs

Straight answers to the questions we hear before an in-home consultation.

What are double roller blinds?

Double roller blinds combine two separate roller blinds on one window, usually a sunscreen or light-filtering blind for the day and a blockout blind for the evening. They are also called dual, day and night, night and day or combination blinds.

How do day and night blinds work?

Each blind operates separately. You can lower the daytime fabric for glare control and filtered light, then use the blockout blind when you want stronger privacy or a darker room.

Do double roller blinds provide privacy at night?

The blockout blind provides strong night-time privacy when lowered. Sunscreen fabrics are designed mainly for daytime use and can become easier to see through when the room is lit after dark.

Can double roller blinds fit every window?

Not always. Two rollers need more fitting space than one. We measure the recess or wall space and check handles and obstructions before recommending them.

Which fabrics can be combined?

The usual pairing is sunscreen with blockout, although a light-filtering fabric may suit rooms where you want softer daylight with less view-through. We bring suitable combinations for you to compare at home.

Do the blockout blinds stop every trace of light?

The blockout fabric is opaque, but some light can remain around the edges of a roller blind. The amount depends on the window, mounting position and required operating clearance.
